Promote Philanthropy

"Philanthropy plays a critical role in all democracies, particularly through support for civil society organisations, enabling them to continue to play their key role in reinforcing an effective democracy."
- NOXOLO HLONGWANE, PHILANTHROPY SPECIALIST, NEDBANK PRIVATE WEALTH

Growing local philanthropic giving in support of a robust and sustainable civil society is a foundational pillar of Inyathelo’s work. Individual giving is becoming the biggest combined source of donor money in South Africa and philanthropists are playing a critical role in supporting and participating in the development of innovative solutions to our many social problems.

Our efforts to promote, profile and grow local giving include:

Private Philanthropy Circle (PPC)

From 2011-15, Inyathelo served as the secretariat for an informal network of individual philanthropists, local trusts and philanthropic foundations whose aim was to build and profile private philanthropy in South Africa, the Private Philanthropy Circle.  In 2015, this entity became the Independent Philanthropy Association of South Africa, a membership-based organisation which advances, promotes and supports independent philanthropy in South Africa.
