Inyathelo in the Headlines

Nomination time - 13 Jun 2011 - Voice of Cape

Do you know someone in your community who deserves national recognition for all the good work they do? Inyathelo is urging you to nominate your philanthropy champion for the Inyathelo Philanthropy Awards. These Awards publicly recognise people whose personal money have made an outstanding and lasting contribution in their communities. Through the Awards, Inyathelo highlights this kind of giving to inspire others to give and to make a difference.

"Being awarded has many benefits besides recognition," said Adrienne Coetzee, manager for Communication and Philanthropy. She refers to the 2009 recipient of the Inyathelo Women in Philanthropy Award, Nosipho Mayana, who said that the award has greatly benefited her cause and community. "The Award has brought more credibility to our work which, in turn, has brought more donations and commitment for the betterment of our community. The Inyathelo Award has brought the type of exposure to our organisation that money cannot buy," Mayana said.

Another award winner, Ahmed "Smiley" Ismael's story highlights the recognition benefits that the Awards bring to projects. "People in our organisation feel proud to be part of the award and our partners enjoyed the marketing mileage they received. We even received recognition from the Mayor. Our communities are ecstatic that the programmes are benefiting them and now they are being recognised nationally and internationally. We have had numerous calls from others wanting to partner with us," he related.

Refiloe Seseane, Awardee and founder of 18Twenty8, said "the award has bolstered our fledgling organisation's credibility. The positive publicity that ensued from the award did wonders for our public profile". According to Coetzee, it was easy to nominate your philanthropy champion.

"Go to the Inyathelo website, at On the home page, on the left, you will see 'Call for Nominations'. Double click on that box, which will take you to the Awards home page, where you will find all the submission details," she explained. You can also call 021 465 6981 if there are futher questions. All nominations must be in by 30 June. VOC
