Some 230 representatives of over 150 non profit organisations NPOs and civil so ciety bodies gathered in Woodstock last week, sharing expertise on good govern ance at the annual #ThinkGood event. The members of the NPO Service Provid ers' Network also engaged on management and strategies for the sustainability of NPOs. Known as #ThinkGood, the free event was coordinated on behalf of the NPO Ser vice Providers' Network by CMDS, finan cial management consultants to the non profit sector. It took place at Inyathelo: The South Afri can Institute for Advancement, in Wood stock on Tuesday 14 August. Felicity Weekes, CMDS operations man ager, says #ThinkGood is a sector contribu tion to Mandela Day. The #ThinkGood event is held later in the year August so that NPOs that hold their own Mandela Day activities can take part in #ThinkGood too.
"This was the fourth annual event and the response was phenomenal," Weekes says. "We were fully booked within three days, with another 56 organisations on the wait ing list. We thank the organisers and partic ipants, all of whom shared their expertise at no cost." The day long programme covered topics such as social media to support fundraising; financial sustainability through invest ments; financial management and compli ance, and data security. Participants also booked one on one sessions with Inyathelo on organisational sustainability and with other sector experts on subjects such as tax, fundraising, public relations and market ing communications. Inyathelo operations director Feryal Do mingo says: "We were delighted to host this event as Inyathelo owns the Civil Society Sustainability Cen tre, which was fund ed by Atlantic Phil anthropies. The cen tre was bustling with activity and it was a wonderful op portunity to net work and build up skills." Inyathelo is an NPO working to sus tain and strengthen civil society organi sations and grow lo cal philanthropy in support of a vibrant democracy in South Africa.
